BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY is definitely one of my favorite books of the year. When Leena Riley goes home to Rock Creek, PA after her dream of being a plus sized model hits a road block, she stumbles into chaos when she applies for the position of office assistant at the veterinary clinic run by Cole Flanigan.

Even though he was two years younger then Leena, Cole still taunted her about her size, which he soon regretted when she punched him out. But Cole has turned into a very hot hunk, and is very attracted to Leena.

Leena tells everyone, including herself, that she is back home temporarily, but sometimes you really can come home again.

BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY by Cathie Linz, is hysterically funny, hot and just plain fun to read. I fell in love with the people in Rock Creek in Ms Linz' release, BAD GIRLS DON'T. I loved revisiting with Skye, Nathan and Leena's sister Sue Ellen, who also is dealing with issues of her own.

If you haven't read Cathie Linz before then I thoroughly recommend you fix that problem and head to the nearest bookstore to get your copy of BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY, it will hook you on her books and you can thank me later.

I was behind the scenes at the model call for Monif C. Plus Sizes for her fall 2007 collection. It all went down on the evening of September 5Th from 5pm to 7pm. I could just imagine the big girls getting ready in the bathrooms of there jobs. Rushing from each end of the city all so that they may become the next Mia or any of the countless beauties who Rip the Runway, or got to model on the website, or both. The Plus Size model call was held at Monif C. Plus Sizes. The new boutique is in the heart of NYC at 325 w. 38Th Street, Suite 1007. NY, New York 10018.

When I walked out of the elevator on the 10Th floor around 6pm, all I could see was tall big beautiful woman. They were all standing in a line that went around and circled out towards the elevator where I took my place. Only unsigned Plus Size models who were sizes 18/ 20, ages 18 to 35 and 5'7 and above was asked to come to the plus size casting. However, I saw all shapes and sizes as well as many familiar faces from Myspace and other casting calls. I wonder what kind of beauties arrived at 5pm blew Monif C. away with thier sass and style and was gone before the late birds even showed up all tired and sweaty from work.

I must say ladies we must come correct and have our comp cards , business cards, know your true measurements ( someone checked them),be ready to smile and make nice with everyone at the full figured go-sees. I wondered at times is anyone watching Top Model. I ask this because Tyra Banks teaches how hair should be styled and how makeup should be worn. I know that every designer is different but ladies the light and dark purple eyeshadow is a bit over the top. And the earrings down to the the shoulder is for a night out, not a go-see. For God's Sake have a real hair style. We all make mistakes, but lets learn from them and keep it moving.

Speaking of mistakes, here are the ones that I made. First I had such a good time talking to the models that I was not mentally prepared when they called my number. In other words I was distracted. I did not watch my application and someone ruined it. It may or may not have been on purpose but either way it was My fault. I have to be responsible for my life not a stranger. I had to fill out a 2ND application which was not as neat as the first one. I forgot to have my telephone number on my comp card and just had to hope that my application and comp card would stay together. I never changed my shoes. I had 5 inch platforms on and my 4 inch stilettos in my purse. I was distracted, so I had no time to switch. I also forgot to turn in the middle of my walk. Bad I know.

I also did do some good things, I networked and made new plus model friends. What's up Dollie? My make up was perfect, my outfit was great and I felt super confidant. I had my comp card and my walk and pose was killer. My hair was beyond exceptional. Monif C loved my full picture pose on my comp card. She commented that I would be better for her upcoming fashion show than for the photo shoot (no guarantees of course). I was thankful to be consider for any job. Monif C. surprised me with that one. I was very surprised because she only advertised for her fall photo shoot.

Monif C is very nice and she really does not make you feel rushed and gives second chances. Her smile lights up the room and you can tell she is a great friend because she has a warmth about her. She is a professional that is doing great things for the plus size movement and I truly wish her all success. Her clothes are great. Her boutique is so cute and sassy with plenty of room to strut your stuff. Diva

It is now that a man’s fancy turns, paraphrasing the old quote, to what’s been on his mind all winter long: women. Except those scarves, long coats and such have been shed for the sake of more form-revealing attire. In other words, fewer clothes – two words that strike delight and undying, neck-bending curiosity in men everywhere.
The ladies, of course, know all this very, very well. And, accordingly, you can and will see them out there -- most each and every morning, noon and early evening – jogging here and there, usually around the circumference your friendly neighborhood community park, doin’ their best to shed some of, eh, nature’s bounty. Which is all well and good when you’re doing it for health reasons – maybe Turkey Day and Christmas dinner were a little too good to you than y’ should’ve let them be and you don’t want those extra ounces to slow down your blood circulation. Whatever. That’s not what the point at hand is about: the salient issue, herewith presented for consideration, is the obsession that leads ladies lose what they need to be glad God gave ‘em.

For instance, there are few sights more heartbreaking than to sit on a park bench and overhear a sister say, “I got to lose some of this butt and get rid of these thunder thighs.” You pick your eyes up ever so slightly from that book you’re only half-reading in the first place and sneak a sly peek. The woman has a body like the map of Africa! And you want to scream, “Baby, no, don’t do it to yourself.” But, you simply put your head back down and mind your business – maybe even shedding a tear and quietly sniffling to yourself.

Can we talk? The Good Lord invented profoundly protruding posteriors (go ‘head, say that five times fast), hammer hips and luxuriously appointed legs for a reason. If he wanted women to have to run around in the shower to get wet, he would have made water fall out the faucet in bigger drops. Ladies, you need to understand that you’re built the way you built ‘cause you s’pose to look like that. Never mind the Madison Avenue-generated ideal you see prancing around on TV and profiling in magazines for them Victoria Secrets ads. And, by all means, don’t pay no attention to television shows full of females who all look like they need a good meal. Not if that ain’t you. Sure, if you’re a skinny-Minnie, fine. For every body-type, beauty is going to be in the eye of a given beholder. All I’m saying is that, well, if you got it in abundance, then, flaunt it with confidence. Because, believe me, there is more than one brother who’s delighted beyond belief to just watch you strut your stuff (well, yeah, he’d love to do more than just watch, but we won’t go there). Added to which, it doesn’t do a thing good for your self-esteem for you to get yourself all frustrated, working up a sweat and growing short of breath, trying to lose what is not going to go away. Especially since, for some strange reason, you’re the only one who doesn’t see and recognize just how gorgeous you are. Thank you for letting me share.

The warm weather doesn’t last anywhere near long enough. Thus, it behooves the generously gifted woman to spend less time at fruitless pursuit of attaining an arbitrary ideal and more time simply going about the business of enjoying her life, quite content with herself just the way she is.

I feel troubled today Curvaceous Divas,

I want to send out much love to my spiritual mother Juanita Bynum. I have been following her teachings for years and have gone to her conferences and to her prayer meetings in queens. I have had intimate times with her on the pulpit. Though I know she would never recognise me. I remember one time I was battered by a man. He took a handful of my hair out of my head. I ran to her prayer meeting in queens and I prayed to God so hard that she would see me and that she would minister to me. well that day she did. all I could do was cry I was so wounded and she held me and she prayed for me. She keep asking me what was wrong but I could not say. I was too emotional. I also thought to myself she is a prophetess if God wanted her to know he would either tell her or I would be able to speak. I could tell that she wanted to help but all she could do is pray.

The reason that I am reflecting on this story today is because her husband Bishop Thomas Weeks III has abused her. He has choked her, pushed her down, kicked her and stomped on her in a parking lot a couple of days ago. For black Christians their wedding was this amazing event that God had his hand in. They have marital books and tapes.

Dr. Juanita Bynum.... I am currently recovering from all of my injuries and resting well. There are so many great things happening for me in my future, and so much to look foward to concerning my destiny, this too shall pass. The bible says in Proverbs 4:25 "let you eyes look right on with fixed purpose and let your gaze be straight before you."

If you are shorter than that, you still have tons of options so don't give up. I am 5'8 and trust me there are challenges but I would not change it for the world.

Being two different sizes can sometimes pose problems for fittings. However, I have worked with models who are shaped very differently in different parts of their body. It is important to try to get yourself as evened out as possible to ensure the best fit for clothing.

Your hair and makeup should be as understated as much as possible. In my opinion, your hair should be pulled back, away from your face for go-sees.
